A Website For Allergies:
Our solution is that we want to create an online website that has a replica of a restaurant's menu. Each food will have a button that the person that has allergies presses. A pop up will come up and it will say if the food contains any of the fourteen most common allergies. This helps people with allergies be more comfortable in the restaurant. This not only eliminates the awkwardness of talking to the waiter but it also saves the customer the time of having the waiter list the foods that they can eat or cannot eat.
There are a lot of ways that restaurants are addressing food allergies. Some restaurants like Coral Tree have a footnote at the bottom of their menu that tells the customer to talk to a waiter or simple things like “some of these menu options may contain nuts.” For us, that was not enough. After we did research, we found that the CDC (Center for Disease Control And Prevention) also think that many restaurants could do more things to limit the amount of allergic reactions in their facilities. The CDC did a study and found that less than half of the staff they interviewed were trained on food allergies. In order to limit the amount of allergic reactions in restaurants, we created our website.
We will collect data by sending a survey to 101 people. If they have allergies, they will respond and fill out the survey. We also have a schedule that we will stick to with all of our deadlines. We do not have a budget because making a website is free. Also, we hope to work with a restaurant in our community.
